The only thing that can do that in Texas is tornadoes or floods depending on where you live. I'm lucky to live in an area where it's elevated right and drains off water fairly quickly. There's also the occasional hurricane/tropical storm but a good amount of the time they hit near the Texas/Mexico border or stray to one of the other states in the Gulf.
